The We Rise Initiative is an African Non-Governmental Organisation that is committed to empowering African women to rise above the oppression of the twenty-first century and the stigma attached to feminism.
This organisation aims not only to empower, but also to educate African women about their universal human rights, that many have unfortunately been denied in society today.
Through enhancing the socio-economic and political awareness of African women, We Rise further aspires to become a global influence, positively affecting the lives of millions of African women and showcasing the brilliance that the average African woman can offer to the world.
Our Founders
Laila Johnson-Salami
Laila is a Politics and International Relations graduate, with a keen interest for media and sustainable development. She founded the We Rise Initiative in 2015 after gaining a core understanding of systemic oppression and the effect that it has on African women and girls. She strongly believes that women are catalysts for global progression socially,
economically and politically, and is wholly dedicated to anchoring that change.
Tracy Aryee-Quao
Tracy has a fiery passion for international relations, which she hopes will propel her into the field of development and business in her home country, Ghana. Tracy believes that Africa is a huge force globally, but without the right vision and direction stemming from its youth population, the risk of a viscous cycle continues. Tracy's aim is simple; encompass
all things affecting African women, education, sexual health, career and empowerment, whilst also working personal growth.
Our Recent Events
We held the second Elevate Her event series in London, on March 25th 2017.
"Each time a woman stands up her herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she is standing up for all women."
